Shipping Policies

Luckily I have not had any problems with selling shrimp yet but now that I'm selling more and more shrimp, I have decided to set up a shipping policy. Well here it goes.....

Priority Mail(10$)-shipping within California will come with a live arrival guarantee but outside of California there is no guarantee. I have shipped shrimp numerous times in CA and out of CA and still have not had a DOA yet. They will be shipped out every Monday or Tuesday and sometimes Wednesdays.

In the case of DOA, a clear picture of the dead shrimp in its original package is required within 2 hours of arrival for a refund. The refund will not include the shipping costs paid, only the money for the shrimp itself will be refunded.

Express Mail(35$)-I have not done this before but since everyone else guarantees live arrival with express, I assume there is a very minimal chance of DOA if Express Mail is used. Therefore, I will also guarantee live arrival with express mail. I don't have boxes for shipping shrimp via express mail but I will be ordering them soon.

In the case of DOA, a clear picture of the dead shrimp in its original package is required within 2 hours of arrival for a refund. The refund will not include the shipping costs paid, only the money for the shrimp itself will be refunded.

All Shrimp will be shipped in a kordon breather bag with less than 30 shrimp per bag. I will also throw in some moss or other plants for the shrimp to hold on to during shipment. The kordon breather bag is then placed in a well insulted box and brought to the nearest postal office on the same day for shipping.

Update: flourish root tab problems, lighting hrs. vs activity of shrimp, survival rate of high grade CRS

I redid my 2 gallon, 10 gallon and setup my old plastic 5 gallon. All the tanks should be cycled already but I ran out of test solution for nitrite so I'll have to wait until I have time to go buy a test kit and test the water before putting the shrimp back in.

the 5 gallon was setup with sand and will be homes of the sulawesi shrimp I will soon be getting. My supplier is having some problems with the paperwork involved with getting the shrimp shipped into the US so I dont know when I'm going to be getting the shrimp.

the shrimp in my 2 gallon died 3 days after I transferred it into my Do! Aqua tank. It has to be the seachem flourish tabs.

The black out I did on my 20 gallon worked very well. 90% of the algae is gone. now I'm keeping the lights on abut 7 hrs/day but in intervals. it would be something like 2hrs on and 15min off. I read on a forum that this method works very well to fight off algae. I will densely plant this tank with stem plants so that I could increase the lighting hours with out causing any algae. I've noticed a lot less berried females since I did the black out. The eggs did hatch but usually, the same shrimp will get berried again within 3-5 days. I'm guessing there are less berried shrimp because I didnt turn the light on for 4 days; therefore, decreasing activity of the shrimp. This might also be the reason why my tigers are breeding so fast, because they get about 12 hours of light everyday.

The survival rate of the CRS i'm breeding is fairly low compared to the lower grades I kept before my move in may. I'm getting about 15-30/ batch right now compared to the 30-45/ batch I had with the lower grades I had. This is probably caused by the lack of genetic diversity as they were inbred so much more than the lower grades to get their coloring and patterns.

Shrimp Deaths+Tank Updates

During the past several weeks, I've had 70% of my blue pearls, 50% of my orange bees and another adult wild tiger shrimp die on me. I checked everything, nitrite, GH, KH, pH and everything was fine. So I kept thinking, is it because there isn't enough filtration? I increased filtration to 2 HOB filters and 1 sponge filter but the deaths continued. Since only 1 adult tiger shrimp died I figured it was because of old age so I compared the differences between my CRS tank and Tiger shrimp tank which had all breeding and healthy shrimp versus my Do! aqua mini-L and 10gal orange bee shrimp tank which had shrimp dying almost everyday. I thought to myself what did I do differently between the 2 tanks that had dead shrimp and the 2 tanks that had healthy shrimp, then I remembered both of those tanks had flourish root tabs in the substrate and were probably releasing too much copper or other micro nutrients that the shrimp did not like.

So I finally decided yesterday that I was going to redo my 10 gallon and the 2 gallon as the 2 gallon had root tabs in the substrate also. I just got started today by giving all my blue pearl shrimp left away to a friend and moving all the bee shrimp into a guppy breeder box in my 12 gallon and tearing all the plants out. Tomorrow I'm going to replace the soil in the 10 gallon and 2 gallon tank and setup my old 5 gallon plastic tank for some sulawesi shrimp I'm going to trade my tiger shrimp for. The guy I'm doing the trade with said the sulawesi shrimp should be here by the end of the month and I'm getting pretty excited! I hope everything goes well!

Now for some pics an current water parameters of my tanks. These pictures were taken before I tore out the plants in my 10 gallon and moved all the shrimp.

The shrimp are breeding like crazy(have some for sale) but I'm having a bit of algae problems. Last time I counted there were 9 berried CRS. I'd say about 5-6 batches hatched so far and I'm suprised by the S/S+ grade to SS grade ratio in the offspring of SS mothers its almost 1:1. Currently doing a black out.

Breeding Like CRAZY! I'd say they're more prolific than cherries(maybe because they are wild caught). This tank is has a population of about 300 wild tiger shrimp with only 10 adults.

Just tore it down and took out the shrimp.

looks the same as it first started as I took the eleocharis belem and planted it in my Do! aqua mini-L. Got 3 shrimp from ocean aquarium called blue bee shrimp but slowly turned brown after about a month in this tank. I was told it was a wild type cherry but the change in coloration was extremely dramatic maybe too dramatic to be a wild cherry. 2 died and 1 berried female was left(guessing it was wild caught) eggs hatched but were sucked into the HOB filter. The adult female was moved into the mini-L several hours ago. About to be torn down tomorrow.
