On wednsday august 19, before I left my house I saw a dead blue pearl shrimp in my do! aqua tank and a dead orange bee shrimp in my 10 gallon. I was a bit scared as the shrimp looked very young. I checked for nitrite, nitrate, GH, and pH. Everything seemed fine, nitrite was 0, nitrate was ~10, pH was 6.6, and GH was 4. Everything in my do! aqua tank was the same except the pH was 6(because the soil is newer). although all the test results told me everything was fine, I double dosed prime to get rid of any ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate and added ADA bacter 100. I did this because most of the time, sudden death of young shrimp are caused by ammonia or nitrite spikes. The prime is used to get rid of toxic substances immediately and the ADA bacteria is used for increasing bacteria population. In addition to prime and bacter 100, I also added a bag of purigen to the HOB filter to get rid of all the toxins.
Immediately that night, I went online to order some shrimp tonic as I heard from people on online forums, that this product can be a life saver. It should be coming in a few days along with other mosura products.
Before wednsday, I did not do anything to either of the tanks. I only did my daily dosing of excel, seachem potassium, potassium nitrate, and ADA step one along with feeding. After wednsday, I kept a close eye on these guys and they all seemed to be healthy and active so I stopped worrying. I just thought if anyone were to have emergency situations like this, this post may be able to help them.
